Many people question why they need to have a spam blocker. It isn’t that these people lack an understanding of computer security and how important it is to keep control of spam. Nor is it that these people underestimate just how dangerous spam emails can be. Instead, these people wonder why spam mails actually exist.
There are actually a lot of people who simply install a spam blocker as if they are doing as they are told—like following directions—without having any idea why spammers do what they do. For all that these people know a spam blocker might not even really be necessary.

The average spammer ends up earning more than $100,000 per year…and, when you stop to think that spammers really don’t have much capital, you see that they get a huge return for minimal effort.
How Spammers Spam?
So, it is easy to see why everyone needs a spam blocker—if the spammers are making so much money from sending out these spam mails, they aren’t going to just stop. Yet it isn’t quite so evident just how spammers send out their spam—that is, it isn’t clear how spammers get all of the email addresses to which they send spam mails.
While some people may have a picture in their mind of a spammer manually gathering email addresses, writing them down one-by-one, this isn’t the case. Instead, spammers use special programs that do that work form them.
Email extractors are programs that are made to scan websites and web forums for email addresses. Some programs can gather up to 15,000 email addresses within an hour. Newsgroup harvesters work the same way; however, these programs can often gather up to 20,000 or 30,000 per hour.
So, even if you have a spam blocker program on your email program, you may be unwittingly giving spammers your email address if you openly post it in forums or newsgroups or in other public areas of the internet.
