Most people would likely assume that spam mail is pretty much the same all across the country. After all, the people in the United States aren’t all that different, no matter where in the country they live. So, it would be feasible to expect that spam mail campaigns are countrywide. This isn’t always the case, though.
While some spam mail is developed to target anyone and everyone across the country—or even across the globe—there are spam campaigns that are developed specifically for certain areas of the United States.

There is proof that some areas of the country are pursued by spammers more often than other parts of the country. The proof is that some states simply get more spam emails than others. Here are the top ten spammed U.S. states:

Why do these states have more spam than other states? According to spam control specialists, there are varying levels of security awareness and knowledge of the danger of spam mails in different states across the country. Spammers take advantage of this discrepancy, sending more spam mails to the states in which the residents do not place as high of a priority on computer internet security.

Spam mail can be quite dangerous—especially for people who are really not familiar with all of the tricks that spammers may have up their sleeves. However, you don’t want to be unaware, either. Practice good common sense—think before you click whenever you aren’t certain of the sender of an email.
